Transport for Greater Manchester has released a video showing timelapse footage of the removal of a 13.5-tonne footbridge.
The work, which was undertaken in readiness for the £350 million Trafford Park Metrolink line, has been described as a “significant engineering feat.”
The new Metrolink line will go through Trafford Park to intu Trafford Centre and engineers were able to move the footbridge, which was 14-metres long and 2.6-metres high because a new pedestrian crossing at Crumpsall Metrolink opened at the start of the year for customers.
The old pedestrian footbridge that passengers previously used to cross the track was removed by a 220-tonne train, with the old pedestrian ramp and lift also removed.
When opened, the Trafford Park line will have more frequent services for those customers using the Bury line.
The video shows the removal of the footbridge.
