Despite being a relatively young company (established in 2013) Rail Products has a vastly experienced management team with decades of both technical and sales experience within the rail industry.
This knowledge ensures Rail Products is not constrained by limiting factors. Therefore, their rail road products will always look to redefine the parameters of a machines’ current capabilities and in conjunction with Manitou, who provide a world-wide back up service, MD Derek Burns and his team continue to design and engineer innovative and technically advanced road/rail MEWPS, including the ART 17T, the enhanced ART 17TH and the new ART 17THM Multi gauge version.
These MEWP’s work from zero cant to 180mm cant in work mode and 200mm in travel mode, they can also travel over the side at 90 degrees at a 120 cant working at all times with a full load of 400kg. They also have an outreach of 8.94m with the telescopic arm fully extended, a continuous turret rotation and 180 degrees basket rotation capability, giving total flexibility when working on the railway. The new 17 THM Multi Gauge version has an in-built adjustable track gauge (1000mm to 1600mm) which enables it to work across virtually any major rail network in the world.
PANNING ON THE MOVE
All Rail Products MEWP’s can be fitted with a ‘Pantograph’, which enables the machine — for the first time ever — to ‘pan’ on the move. The self-propelled machine provides height and stagger measurements as it goes. Furthermore, Rail Products’ new Mark II Pantograph will now not only monitor height and stagger measurements, it will also record them — another first for the organisation.
Plus, further technical development of the ‘Pantograph’ has meant a new Mark III version is about to be launched which will also offer GPS data control as well as video feedback.
GLOBAL APPROVAL AND DISTRIBUTION
The MEWP’s are now approved for use in many countries including the UK, Austria, Belgium, DB (Germany), Denmark, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania and Switzerland, with further approval also pending in Saudi Arabia and Australia.
There is now a big demand for the machines, and in the last year Rail Products has delivered over 140 machines to many of the country’s leading rail companies including ReadyPower, Story Contracting, Torrent Trackside, Balfour Beatty, Rail Electrification, Amey Rail and HolyRail to name a few.
The order book has even gone global as Rail Products have also delivered machines to customers across Europe, including Consensa AG, Spyfatec Courgevaux (Switzerland); Strabag GmbH Bamberg (Germany), İL Projects Oostwinkel (Belgium); Schuurmans Machineverhuur, B.V. Helvoirt (Netherlands) Europten (Austria) and Normann Olsen (Norway)
NEW OVERLOAD SYSTEM
Advancement in Health & Safety practice has led to Rail Products introducing a new ‘Overload System’ to the MEWP to further protect the operator and the asset. The system employs self-encrypted software. The LLI configures the allowed maximum weight and shows it digitally and in proportional values (red-yellow- blue) as an indicator in the basket as well as the back ballast. The datalogger output will immediately indicate if any overload has occurred and will give the operator a value of the overload above 400kg.
TH21 ROAD RAIL CRANE
Another addition to the Rail Products range is the new TH21 Road Rail Crane which has been exclusively developed for the rail network. It meets the new RIS-1530-PLT Issue 6 Safety standard and is EN approved. The TH21 can lift and carry up to 6 tons reaching a height of 21 metres as well as towing up to 48 tons. Compatible with over 20 different Manitou attachments, this machine is completely versatile for working either on or off the railway.
Plus, that’s not all, these latest innovations have come hot on the heels of the announcement that Rail Products will now be actively working with the Manitou network worldwide. Derek Burns commented, ‘’Rail Products is committed to developing and building innovative rail machines and demand for both the Crane and MEWP’s is growing not only in the UK but all around the globe and our new partnership with Manitou will now help us pursue sales not only in central Europe but in Australia, China, the Far East and India, which is very exciting for the future of the company.
