Highways England has confirmed the appointment of Peter Mumford as its new Executive Director of Major Projects & Capital Portfolio Management.
The company in charge of operating, improving and maintaining England’s roads has turned to a man who has extensive experience throughout the transport sector, in rail, road and airports.
Importantly, Peter Mumford has been working in this role on an interim basis for more than five months. This, alongside his UK and international project and programme experience makes him the ideal person for this position.
Highways England’s Chief Executive, Jim O’Sullivan, believes this appointment will be key to the delivery of the road investment strategy.
“I congratulate Peter on his appointment and am pleased he will continue with Highways England and the Executive Team as we deliver the government’s £15 billion road investment programme.”
Having held senior positions within a whole host of organisations related to the construction industry, Peter Mumford has worked on a number of high profile projects and programmes.
His experience has included work at board level, with responsibility for delivering global engineering design and programme management services responsible for safety, financial, people and overall business performance.
It is a crucial time for Highways England; with road usage growing all the time, and the need to unlock areas of the country for access and to encourage businesses to locate in different regions, the delivery of roads that ease congestion, travel and commuting problems has never been higher.
Highways England’s new appointment will greatly assist with this delivery and Peter believes it is an exciting time to be working with the organisation.
“I am delighted to be joining Highways England at such an exciting time as we focus on delivering our significant portfolio of major projects and continue to prepare for the next roads investment period and beyond.”
Peter will officially become Executive Director of Major Projects & Capital Portfolio Management on 1 February.
